Balaji Telefilms approaches Sonia Gandhi for lead role in ‘Kyon ki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi’ sequel

Balaji Telefilms has approached Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, to play the character of the tearful saas in a rebooted version of the popular Television soap, ‘Kyun ki saas bhi sabhi bahu thi‘. The offer for the lead role, that had been previously essayed by BJP’s Smita Irani, comes in the wake of Salman Khurshid claiming during an election rally in Azamgarh: “Jab hamne wo tasveer unko (Sonia) dikhayee to unke aasu phoot pade (when we showed her the pictures, she began weeping).”

“Sonia ji rocks yaa. What empathy!! I won’t settle for anyone other than her now for the role of teary eyed saasu maa,” said an elated Ekta Kapoor, who has instructed her script writers to pack every episode with at least one weeping scene to leverage Sonia’s emoting talent. “We might even release it in Italy for which we do not have to re-dub her lines,” she added.

10, Janpath is seriously considering the offer although a Congress spokesperson clarified that “madam became very emotional after seeing pictures of the Baatla encounter but did not shed any tears.”

“Madam has enjoyed playing ‘desh ki bahu’ but wants to move on and play the role of saas now. With Rahul not showing any inclination to get married, she’s kicked about playing a reel life mother-in-law instead,” informed Congress leader Gandhi family loyalist, Janardhan Dwivedi.

BJP’s Smrita Irani has caustically warned that the serial’s TRP ratings will sink after “Sonia starts delivering lines in Italian accented Hindi,” but Congress has allayed fears on that front.

“Dude, when has madam ever directly spoken to the public? We’ll have a minion, say Renuka Choudhury, dub her lines in Hindi and Telugu for that. All Madam has to do is smile or smirk as per the demands of the script which is what she does anyway as the Congress President,” said Congress spokesperson, Abhishek Manu Singhvi. “Oh yeah, we have also requested Ekta Kapoor to include some scenes where she waves at the cameras.”
