President Pratibha Patil has good reason to smile, as she does not have to sit idle after she completes her presidential 5-year term. The world’s most famous travel and informative television channel, The Discovery Channel has just inked a deal with the first lady, roping her in to host the future seasons of their around-the-world travel show “The Globe Trekker”.
The news was confirmed by John Hendricks, founder and chairman of Discovery Communications Inc. Addressing world media in a press conference, Hendricks said – “I’ve come here to bring to your notice, that the future seasons of one of our most important TV shows which you all have loved and appreciated a lot over the years”, before pausing to a huge applause by the audience. Hendricks continued, “Yes, that’s right. I’m talking about The Globe Trekker. The future seasons will be hosted by none other than the current Honorable President of India, Her Excellency, Mrs.Pratibha Patil.”
“All our anchors so far, have been quite young. We wanted to go for someone older this time, so that the show could appeal to their age group as well and foster the spirit of travel among the elderly. We needed someone who has traveled a fair bit around the world and when we saw a news report today from an Indian Television channel that the President of India has traveled around 21 countries, spending over 205 crore, we knew we found just the person we needed! Wow! Man, this lady’s good ! Even we don’t seem to have spent that much in all our seasons put together!”, exclaimed a thrilled Hendricks. He finally concluded by saying “I’d like to thank the people of India for giving us such a perfectly suited candidate for our show. You guys have been so wonderfully kind and generous to sponsor all of her trips abroad, which has given her the most appropriate experience we needed. We’re looking forward to having a great time with Mrs.Patil and wish her the very best!”
On her part, the President spoke to a few scribes & journalists. “Well, obviously I’m very happy and excited about hosting this show. It is, indeed, a proud moment for me to be representing my country on a world-famous TV show. However, before that, I’ve enrolled for a course at Shri Anupam Kher’s school, on how to face the camera and speak. I’ve hardly ever done that during these 5 years, you see; I’ve mostly been invisible and mute, so I’m a bit out of touch when it comes to speaking and facing people. However, thanks to all the tax-payers of my dear country, I’ve had a wonderful time touring different countries in the world and I’m very confident about doing a good job at hosting the show. Mera Bharat Mahaan!“, said the President before returning to idleness.
