After launching a campaign to rename Mumbai’s Central station after late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Congress MP from Mumbai, Sanjay Nirupam has now requested Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra, who have been blessed with a baby boy, to name him as Rajiv Kundra-Shetty.
Nirupam had said that calling Mumbai’s Central station as the Rajiv Gandhi station was apt, as the former PM apparently lived in the area. Justifying his request to Shilpa Shetty, Nirupam said, “Shri Rajiv Gandhi saab left us many years ago on this day and now, after more than two decades, on this very same day, I have a gut feeling he is reborn as Shilpa Shetty’s son. That’s why I’ve asked them to name him Rajiv. The similarity is not uncanny at all – Raj Kundra, Rajasthan Royals, Rajiv Kundra. It all falls in place! This boy is verily Rajiv saab reborn! People are apparently gifting him toy planes to play with! What was Rajiv saab before entering politics? A pilot! The coincidence is just too much yaar!”
Meanwhile, in a case of mistaken identity, BCCI vice-president and IPL Commissioner Rajeev Shukla was seen sending congratulatory tweets to the couple. “Congrats on [your] Citi moment of success! So I hear you’ve been asked to name [your] baby after me? Just (a) request, please name [him] DLF Rajeev! (sic),” he tweeted, thereby providing timely fodder for the mainstream media to report it as another IPL row, with some news channels flashing headlines such as “IPL Commissioner requests Shilpa Shetty to name baby after him!”. Leading newspaper The Times of India also carried a report headlined “IPL Commissioner wants Team Rajasthan owners to give their baby his name”. Shukla, has, however, distanced himself from the matter and said, “Please leave the IPL out of this. It is my matter and the IPL has got nothing to do with this.”
The couple has had a lot of visitors from the cricketing world. Commentator Danny Morrison, however, was asked to leave the premises and was subsequently banned from entering within 2 kms of the hospital, after it took Shilpa and the hospital staff a staggering 4 hours to stop the baby from wailing upon hearing Danny’s supersonic screams of excitement. Commentator Ravi Shastri had to be summoned urgently to lull the baby back to sleep with his soporific commentary.
