The Congress Working Committee (CWC), which convened today to take stock of recent developments, held desultory discussions on sundry issues before ending the meet on a conclusive note by unanimously passing a resolution crediting AICC general secretary Shri Rahul Gandhi for Italy’s fine run in the Euro2012 championship which culminated with a 0-4 drubbing in the finals yesterday.
In the same breath, the resolution also blamed the Italian players and support staff for failing to leverage the Nehru-Gandhi scion’s charisma to cross the final hurdle and lift the cup.
“Rahulji can only provide the atmospherics, the ambience, but it’s up to the players to translate this into victory, whether it is on the foot-ball ground or the electoral-battleground. We now expect the Italian coach Cesare Prandelli to take responsibility for Italy’s thumping in the finals and step down,” said Mr Salman Khurshid, while moving the resolution.
Digvijay Singh also linked Italy’s mixed success to making Rahul the PM using convoluted sophisticated political logic that only he is capable of. “Imran Khan led his team in victory in the ’92 WC and now the people of Pakistan want him to become their Prime Minister. By the same yardstick, Rahul ji should become PM of India for notionally guiding Italy to the finals,” he reasoned to all-round applause.
Rahul reacted nonchalantly to the CWC’s resolution. “Frankly, after these chaps praised me to the skies despite leading the party to debacles in UP and Bihar, nothing surprises me anymore. Heck man, even if Italy had been eliminated in the play-offs, they would still contrive a reason to extol my leadership,” shrugged the young Congress leader to The Unreal Times.
