Rahul Gandhi shreds a few pages of CB's 'Revolution 2020' to thunderous applause

Incensed by the results of the Facebook poll conducted by Chetan Bhagat (the question being “Who should be India’s PM?”), Rahul Gandhi has decided to hit back by conducting his own poll as to “Who is the Prime Writer of India – Chetan Bhagat or Shobha De?”

Tearing a few pages of Chetan Bhagat’s latest book ‘Revolution 2020’ at a Youth Congress meeting, Rahul Gandhi fumed, “This Chetan guy has huge grudges against me. It’s time to take him on and show who I am. I have been tolerating him for years. Don’t I know that he was pointing at me when he wrote ‘5 point someone’? And don’t we all know he was referring to Digvijay Singh, Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Salmaan Khurshid when he wrote the ‘3 mistakes of my life’? Don’t we realize he was pointing at my nationality, and meant India and Italy when he wrote ‘2 states’? And we all know his “Revolution 2020” was inspired by Anna Hazare movement against the Congress, I mean, corruption.”

When asked by a journalist if there existed any such designation as the “Prime Writer of India”, he simply said, “I think so. If there isn’t, Mummy will ask Mannu uncle to create one such post.”

Rahul’s move has come in for praise from several Congress leaders. Digvijay Singh claimed that Rahul Baba was absolutely right in conducting the polls. “He is basically interacting with the youth. He has taken a huge step to bridge the gap between the two Indias – those who are on FB and those who are not,” said the AICC general secretary. The veteran leader vehemently denied insinuations that this might be simply be Rahul’s plan of getting new lunch and dinner venues by meeting different people on the social networking site, and had this correspondent escorted outside the building by Black Cats.

The poll itself has seen a tremendous response from Facebook users. NSUI members abstained from their classes en masse to take part in the poll. North and South Blocks were abuzz with activity. Congress workers thronged cyber cafes to exercise their literary opinion. By the end of Monday, over 10,000 votes had already been recorded, of which Chetan bagged only 6% of votes, while Shobha got a whopping 89%. 5% of users opted for ‘None of the above’.

“Shobha De anytime yaar! She is so cool. We get what we want to read in every page of Shobha’s erotic books, while we have to scan through the whole book of CB to get one glimpse of umm… well you know,” said a Youth Congress member and an excited Facebook user who voted for the online poll.

“I have dutifully voted for Shobha ji on Facebook after Madam ji called me in the morning and so has the whole staff of PMO. And people still say I am not social,” said Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Meanwhile BJP President Nitin Gadkari has called for a meeting of BJP and its allies to decide on who should be their candidate for the post of the ‘Prime Writer’. “Given that it is such an important post, we need to decide if we should be backing a Modi supporter or someone secular,” said BJP leader Nitin Gadkari with a samosa in one hand and jalebi in the other.
