SRK plays Katrina’s dad and Anushka’s grand-dad in Jab Tak Hai Jaan: Yash Chopra reveals plot

While the latest magnum opus from the Yash Chopra banner starring King Khan, the luscious Katrina and the statuesque Anushka Sharma is indeed based on a love story, we have it from the horse’s mouth that it will not be the usual candy flossed, mushy, romantic saga that one has come to associate Yash Chopra movies with.

On the contrary, the movie focuses on the love and affection of a middle aged father played by SRK for his young daughter (Katrina), with Anushka competing for both the protagonists’ affections as the King Khan’s chirpy grand-daughter, revealed Yash Chopra, during a tete-a-tete with The Unreal Times Bollywood correspondent, Tiger Khan, on the sets of Jab Taj Hai Jaan.

“Yaar, pak gaya romance movies banake. Kitne baar wohi love angle ko khichoonga. Give me a break, fellows. I’m over 80 now. My doctor has warned me that if I make another syrupy story like Veer Zara, then I could be done in by Type II Diabetes. So I decided to steer clear of mushy girlfriend-boyfriend stuff and have instead made this sweet father-daughter-granddaughter triangle that the whole family should enjoy, without the slightest trace of debilitating romance in it,” revealed the veteran evergreen film-maker.

Mr. Chopra clarified that the title had nothing to do with the plot as such. “Its my way of saying I’ll continue to make sugary love stories even after I become senile,” he said.

SRK added that the casting was just perfect and everyone will be in character. “Initally, when Yash uncle approached me to share screen space with Kat and Anushka, I was like ‘Uncle, yeh kuch jyaada to nahi hoga?’ After all, I am not Rajni saar to be able to act with ladies less than half my age. But Yash uncle assured me that I’ll be playing doting dad and grand-dad to these two lovelies and I felt assured after that,” disclosed the Baadshah of Bollywood.
