Top IAC activist and Anna Hazare loyalist, Arvind Kejriwal, looks all set to play Hanuman in a television serial based on the great Indian epic, The Ramayana. Sources confirmed that the original choice for the role was Salman Khan, but after Kejriwal’s remark that he carries Anna’s picture in his heart, the producers were 100% certain that only Kejriwal could do justice to the role of the great vanara.
Kejriwal has accordingly hit the gym to beef up his lean frame to match up to the lofty standards set up by Dara Singh. “It is an honour to be cast in the iconic role of Hanuman ji. I am in talks with Aamir Khan to get the same trainer who trained him in Ghajini,” revealed a pumped up Kejriwal.
Anna, who has been approached to portray Ram’s role, also readily agreed, lauding the media for its efforts to mend relations between the Gandhian and his devout follower. “The media has been a bit of match maker of late, calling upon all sparring partners to have a word. For instance, the Times Now debate has been a perfect platform for party leaders, who would otherwise not let each other speak a single word in the parliament, to debate their differences on alternate platforms. Arvind and I can also in the same manner feign to not interact in public but have fruitful discussions in the studio.”
Baba Ramdev, however, lambasted the Ramayan producers for not giving him the lead role in the mythological series. “I deserve to play the character of Ram more than anyone else. I share the Lord’s name and even hold agitations at Ramlila ground! What more do I need to do to qualify? Why does the media always take my share of publicity away?” rued an angered Baba.
Digvijay Singh was the first choice for the role of Ravan, given his unabashed bashing of Team Anna on several occasions, but he was rejected because the producers felt the audience might not take his dialogues seriously, and confuse the epic saga for a comedy show instead.

I can’t see where the piece makes fun of Ram or Hanuman. It seems to be a morph of actor Dara Singh. If at all it makes fun of anyone, its Team Anna and Ramdev.

Ak, the idea is not to hurt anyone’s sentiments or make fun of a diety or a religion. All we have done is relate a contemporary setting to an epic plot. Anyways, apologies for any offence it might have caused.

I thought fanaticism and Hinduism were mutually exclusive. Such an intolerant attitude doesn’t bode well for the reputation Hinduism enjoys.
