Under attack from India against Corruption’s Arvind Kejriwal and Prashant Bhushan for allegedly amassing wealth beyond known sources of income, Robert Vadra rubbished the accusations, saying he was associated with DLF as a management consultant and that he had merely been remunerated for his consulting advice to the real estate conglomerate during the 2007-10 period.
DLF had ‘compensated’ Vadra for his work by providing an unsecured, interest free loan for Rs. 65 crore to help him buy DLF properties at less than their market prices, thereby enabling the Nehru-Gandhi damaad to earn in excess of Rs. 300 crores.
“Yeah, what is wrong with getting paid in kind for 4 years of consulting work for DLF? Isn’t that how much top tier consulting and I-banking firms earn for rendering similar services? My only assets that are disproportionate to my known sources of income are my pectoral muscles, for which I admit taking some steroids in addition to strenuous work-outs at the gym,” Vadra told The Unreal Times.
Vadra claims that over a 4 year period, he and his consulting team had advised DLF on many issues of business strategy including ‘which markets to play in’, ‘how to become number 1’, ‘Defining number 1’, ‘the need to be number 1’, ‘understanding trade-offs between profitability and market share’ and other pressing business challenges, through over 1000 finely crafted PowerPoint slides replete with spiffy graphics, crisp but slightly cryptic business jargon, and bleeding obvious insights. “Yeah, I got paid royally for this shit. If that is a crime, then arrest me,” said an emotionally agitated Vadra.
Legal experts contend Vadra has a strong defense against the allegations that should stand up to judicial scrutiny. “Dude, DLF sponsored a shitty tournament like IPL for 5 years, forking out humungous sums to BCCI in the name of creating enterprise value. So I’m not surprised that they would hire the services of management consultants as well. And it makes business sense to hire Vadra rather than McKinsey or BCG, no?” reasoned ace corporate lawyer, Harish Salivate.
DLF Chariman KP Singh corroborate Vadra’s version. “Yeah, we hired a few management consulting firms to advise us and just to be sure, we hired Vadra as well. Please don’t bug me anymore,” disclosed the real estate mogul through an e-mail.
Post Script: Sonia Gandhi has commended The Unreal Times for this balanced, objective, and grossly inaccurate article that, going against the tide, seeks to portray Priyanka’s better(?) half in a positive light.
“I’m soo pissed with mainstream media for going after my damaad, ya. You guys rock in comparison. Wish my incompetent spokespersons and minions could have come up with this ingenious line of reasoning rather than dishing out lame excuses in front of the cameras yesterday. Hey Ahmed, can you transfer some money to their accounts to convey my appreciation? Oh, you do have a Swiss account, don’t you?” she told us over the phone.
