A chuffed up Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, appearing at his Prime Ministerial best, addressed the nation today morning about the top secret operation to execute 26/11 terrorist, Ajmal Kasab’s death. Pundits have termed it as the closest India will probably get to closure for 26/11 and have bracketed PM Singh’s speech with Obama’s address to the nation in the aftermath of the assassination of Osama Bin Laden.
Sitting at his desk in the PMO with a photo of Gurcharan placed in the background, Dr. Singh stared purposefully into the cameras to brief his fellow countrymen about details of Operation X. The tone was somber, the demeanor serious, the resolve steadfast. Here are excerpts from his historic address:
“Good evening. Today I can report to the Indian people and the world that the prison authorities at Yerwada conducted a successful operation that has killed Ajmal Kasab, the LeT terrorist who was responsible for the murder of hundreds of innocent men, women and children in Mumbai four years ago.
As we all know, Ajmal Kasab was convicted and sentenced to death after a painstaking, 2 year long, judicial process that was stunningly swift by Indian standards. After that the case went into limbo as Kasab’s mercy petition gathered dust on the desk of the President.
Then, in November, President Mukherjee miraculously rejected his mercy petition and the operation picked up steam.
Today, at 7:30 AM, I woke up and logged on to my twitter account under the handle @PMOIndia to discover that Kasab had been hanged.
As I was kept in the dark, the jail authorities at Yerwada prison launched the targeted operation at 7:30 AM. A small team of Indians carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Indians were harmed.
Later, I called up President Sonia to inform her about the successful operation and we both agreed that this is a historic day for our country in the fight against terrorism.
Tonight, I want to thank all the countless bureaucrats and ministers who worked tirelessly to expedite the processing of Kasab’s mercy application, especially Union Minister Shinde whose alacrity in signing off on Kasab’s file is a testament to the greatness of our country and the determination of the Indian people.
I must also thank President Mukherjee for his professionalism and courage in quickly acting on Kasab’s petition.
Of course, we are not any safer from terrorism emanating from across the border since the dastardly events of 26/11/2008 but when did that ever worry us.
With this, I end my address. May God bless America..oops I mean Jai Hind.”
Congratulations continue to pour in to the PMO from all across the country for the highly smooth and successful operation.
