The Congress has mounted an effective response to Narendra Modi’s use of 3D holograms by deploying hundreds of life-like mannequins of Dr. Manmohan Singh during Congress rallies in the run up to the Gujarat polls. With this ingenious intervention, the Congress has negated Modi’s ability to leverage technology to create force multipliers – the Gujarat CM has used 3D holograms of himself to address hundreds of election rallies across the state, which has drawn huge crowds.
While it remains to be seen whether this will help the Congress come out ahead in the electoral sweepstakes, people agree that the life-like mannequins, who come with pre-recorded speeches, are virtually indistinguishable from the real McManmohan McCoy. And what’s more, they come at a fraction of the cost of the high definition 3D avatar platform: While Modi licensed the technology from a British firm, Musion, the Congress has contracted a local mannequin manufacturer in Mehsana, to stitch up hundreds of figures of India’s premier in various poses.
With a day to go for elections, the Congress fielded ‘Manmohan Singhs’ in multiple election rallies spread across Jamnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar, Rajkot, Surat, Meshana, Ahmedabad and a few other towns with people none the wiser as to which town the Prime Minister was physically present in. However, Congress poll managers have refused to divulge that information. “How does it matter whether the real Dr. Singh or the dummy Dr. Singh was addressing you? Our ingenious technology platform ensures that the experience is the same – they all deliver pre-recorded speeches, don’t take questions from the audience, and all of them come with a set of black cat commandoes,” noted veteran Congress leader, Diggy.
However, the cat was let out of the bag when a youth present at the rally in Surat claimed that he had spotted Dr. Manmohan Singh blink his eyes once during his short speech. The Congress high command has now rectified the flaw by deploying dummies that blink their eyes intermittently.
