In a major blow to Modi, the senior leader of BJP, L K Advani who had declined to attend the BJP National Executive meeting on grounds of ill-health, now refuses to participate in the same via video conferencing either. He claims that his laptop is ill, infected as it is by a virus called Namojan.
Not just him but the computers of Uma Bharti and Jaswant Singh have also been infected by the same virus, precluding them from remotely logging in to the Goa meet. Sources say that not including Uma Bharti’s slides in the power point presentation for Madhya Pradesh election campaigns has irked her laptop and it uninstalled its anti-virus. Yashwant Sinha, on the other hand, has clearly stated, “My laptop is in perfect health, but there could be other reasons for not attending the meeting via video conference”, before turning on to play his angry birds game. Laptops of B C Khanduri and Maneka Gandhi have also failed to plug in electronically. A few backbencher MPs were also inconspicuous by their absence but no one has bothered asking them why.
The suggestion of enabling top leaders to connect via video conferencing was first raised by party leader Rajnath Singh, after many leaders expressed their unavailability to attend the Goa conclave. But virus infection on their laptops was something he had not expected. Also, pundits are wondering how Advani’s laptop can be infected by a virus, when it was in perfect health the last time he blogged, raising the concerns over factionalism in BJP.
“After seeing all this BJP drama, I remembered my phoophaji who refused to attend my wedding reception because he did not get hot jalebi during the engagement party; and needed lot of persuasions and apology from all family members,” said a lower ranking party member.
