Nagin, the King Cobra of Nagina fame has been awarded the prestigious Padma Shri award for excellence and exceptional achievements in the field of art and entertainment. Other notable awardees in this category are Ajay Devgan and Priyanka Chopra.
Speaking to The UnReal Times, an unflustered Nagin, who has acted in over 50 movies, said, “I never work for any award or appreciation. ‘Performance of prescribed duties without attachment to results’ has always been the mantra of my life; however, it feels good to be recognized for my work.”
“When I acted in the movie Jani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani, my expressions in the movie were more pleasing than Armaan Kohli’s… I mean, that’s what everyone said. And even today people recognize me everywhere I go. I wish I could say the same about Mr. Kohli.”
“But I haven’t achieved it in one day. You need to put in a lot of hard work and dedication to attain perfection in this field. As a snake, I am aware of the fact that, when I bite the heroine in a movie, the producer’s livelihood depends on the positioning of the bite but I have to keep in mind the guidelines of censor board and bite accordingly. It’s been a tough ask but I have always delivered.”
“I have given the nation Nagin dance, although you guys have made a mockery of the dance form. It’s not supposed to be performed at weddings and definitely not under the influence of beverages.”
“Anyway, so when I saw Ajay Devgan and Priyanka Chopra’s names on the list of winners, I realized that the only living beings left to win a Padma Shri award were Tusshar Kapoor, that parrot from Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, and I. I kept my fingers crossed and the rest is history.”
“I heard that one of my co-actors from the movie Nagina part II won Padma Bhushan award. Good actor. Dances a bit like me.”
“But that’s how you need to dance, like nobody’s watching,” we reasoned.
“No one would like to watch it either, unless held at gunpoint, but it’s good that he won the third highest civilian award. I wish I’d tweeted a few nice things about Narendra… Anyway, now if you excuse me, I need to share this news with my fans.”
We peeped into her mobile as she typed on the microblogging site, “Humbled by the gesture of Govt. of India. #Jaihind!”
